Jimmy Kimmel Calls Charlie Kirk’s Assassin “MAGA” Despite FBI Confirming Far-Left Ideology

On Jimmy Kimmel Live Monday night, ABC host Jimmy Kimmel raised eyebrows by suggesting that Tyler Robinson — the suspect accused of assassinating Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk — was part of the “MAGA gang.”

During his opening monologue, Kimmel claimed conservatives were “hitting new lows” by trying to distance Robinson from the MAGA movement:

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

Kimmel then mocked Donald Trump and the White House’s response, criticizing the decision to lower U.S. flags to half-staff and Trump’s remarks about ballroom construction when asked about the shooting days later:

“This is not how an adult grieves the murder of somebody he called a friend. This is how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish.”’

Kimmel’s comments came just one day after FBI officials and Utah Governor Spencer Cox publicly stated that Robinson had a “leftist ideology” and had become increasingly radicalized in recent years.

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino told Fox News:

“It’s fairly obvious this was an ideologically motivated attack.”

A source familiar with the investigation confirmed to Fox News Digital that the FBI is looking into leftist groups in Utah to see whether they had any connection to the alleged shooter.

At a Tuesday press conference, law enforcement released new details, including text messages between Robinson and his roommate and romantic partner, a transgender woman. In one message, Robinson wrote:

“I had enough of his [Kirk’s] hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out. If I am able to grab my rifle unseen, I will have left no evidence. Going to attempt to retrieve it again, hopefully they have moved on.”

Fox News Digital reached out to ABC for comment.

Following the fatal shooting during a campus event at Utah Valley University, Kimmel had previously issued a statement mourning the conservative activist, writing on Instagram:

“Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human?”

He added that his family sends love to the Kirks and to “all the children, parents and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence.”

Despite that statement, Kimmel has repeatedly blasted Trump for blaming leftist rhetoric for the killing:

“With all these terrible things happening, you would think our president would at least make an attempt to bring us together — but he didn’t. Obama did. Biden did. Bush and Clinton did. Trump did not. Instead, he blamed Democrats for their rhetoric.”

Kimmel then reminded viewers of Trump’s past controversial remarks about the Second Amendment, the media, and his opponents — arguing that Trump has no standing to lecture others about “dangerous rhetoric.”
